‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’

In the process of understanding Stroke and brain injury – I researched positive stories and memoirs of people living with the condition.

The first person I heard about was Jean-Dominique Bauby, french editor of the Magazine Elle – who got locked in syndrome, in the age of 37. from his hospital bed, he wrote the book ‘The diving bell and the butterfly’ describing his thoughts, through a personal disaster unable to move the whole of his body except from his one eye lid. His brain and mind was intact – therefore the metaphor of the butterfly, and the diving bell was his locked in body.
