Testing wearable health technology

After some time, back home in DK – I am still synthesising the input I gained at Nottingham Trent University in the UK. I followed Sarah Kettley, for a two months Erasmus Traineeship at the University’s research Department and the project “An Internet of Soft Things”.

Last week I got a rejection, on the paper I wrote together with Sarah, for the International Symposium of Wearable Computers to be held in Heidelberg this autumn. Instead we will send our proposal for DIS2017 – which might be a more suitable audience.

Next week Ill visit Brighton in UK, for the PhDbyDesign event, held together with the DRS conference on Design Research and forward focused thinking. Yip – the bikini is packed!

Next semester of my PhD project, Ill test a wearable health technology device, designed by CORTRIUM, a promising Danish startup.

My next design experiment will focus on the experience of wearable health technology and self-monitoring. Together with citizens living in own home, the objective of the experiment is to figure out of there is any future prospects of implementing wearable health technology in the homes of the elderly, and testing an accessory approach, for a re-design project. This as part of my teaching obligations for Accessory Design students at Design School Kolding.

Testing the device has already benefitted to my personal experience of wearing health technology – in such an intimate place, under my chest on my body. Unfortunately it was  very hard to sleep with the device, so reflections are made and documented.
